July and August 2016 we ventured off to discover Sri Lanka and the Maldives and what a wonderful discovery it was. Sri Lanka is such a diverse country with something for everyone. Our son especially enjoyed seeing the elephants and other wildlife whilst our daughter really enjoyed the cultural aspects in particular the temples and learning about Buddhism. Our driver, Rusiru, was very friendly and also very knowledgable but on the rare occasion he didn’t have the answer to our never ending questions he would do everything he could to find us an answer and stopped endlessly so that we could take photographs of everything. We can highly recommend travelling with a private chauffeur. Our favourite stop would have to be the Madulekelle Tea and Ecolodge located high up in the tea plantations even if it did take us rather a while to get there. The hotel and accommodation were outstanding set in a gorgeous location, the food delicious and the additional facilities such as the spa and the tour of the tea plantation fantastic. The 5 days in the Maldives at the end of our trip was just the icing on the cake. Kurumba is a great resort and we especially loved the snorkelling. Definitely a trip worth recommending for families with teenagers.
